OGS Saying

The usual admonition to the graduating students by Mr JA Osanyin (Principal 1949 - 66) goes as follow:

Go forth into the world in peace.
Be of good courage.
Render to no man evil for evil ...
May God grant you His protection, real success, long life and prosperity ...

OGS Founders and How It all Began

The school was conceptualized by certain indigenes of Offa who way back in the late 1930s had seen education for the people of Offa as a vehicle for development. Their drive was given impetus by the socio- cultural movement of the town, the Offa Descendants’ Union (ODU).

The Early Years

The establishment of Offa Grammar School and the subsequent steady developments can be credited to the thoughtfulness, resourcefulness and the relentless efforts of the Offa Descendants’ Union (ODU). In those days of the colonial era, Offa was small, and could almost pass for a rural town except for the presence of the Nigerian Railway Corporation and some Missionary churches with their primary schools. The idea of starting a Community Secondary School in that part of the country was therefore a rather novel experience.

Osanyin's Era as Principal

Mr. J.A. Osanyin met only one uncompleted building at OGS. He not only completed it, but erected several others. The layout of the compound and the design of the buildings were done under his supervision. Money for the building was raised through school fees, grants from ODU and the Regional Government. He once recalled that, a 'special grant' of £20,000.00 was given to the school by the Regional Government to erect four buildings, namely: the Principal's Office, Assembly Hall, Staff Quarters, and a block of classrooms'. Adelowo Era as Principal

Whether in academics, facilities development, drama or sports Adelowo's era as Principal of Offa Grammar School was an era of unparalled development. Of significant importance was the year 1968, the year of the Silver Jubilee of the school, when the school was approved not only to run the Higher School Certificate Course (HSC) in both Arts and Science subjects, but also to be an examination centre for the course. He engaged more teachers to enable effective teaching of both the lower and the higher school students.

School Curriculum

The school runs a 6-year 2-phase programme in Science, Arts and Commerce. The first phase is the Junior Secondary (JS) level when English language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Introductory Technology, Agricultural Science, Social studies, Computer Science, Nigerian languages, Religious studies among others are taught to all students.

OGS Old Student Association

There is vibrant and very active alumni association named Offa Grammar School Old Students’ Association (OGSOSA). There is an apical national organ of the body to which all other branches are affiliated. The old students have been notable in staying in constant touch with the alma mater, and in continually assisting in every sphere of its development, be they in areas of physical, manpower or equipment needs. Some OGSOSA branches, such as the Abuja branch are very active.

There is a limitless list of highly dignified old students, some of whom are senior citizens, who are national and international prominent figures and who have made their marks in various spheres of life.

Teachers and Administration

A modern administration building serves the 95 teachers of the school.
