A Report by the Abuja Chapter
April, 2002
Chapter President: Mr Lary Osai
Preamble
Although the chapter was only 2 years old it had proved its mettle in achieving the goals
and objective of OGSOSA. The branch is aiming to be the shining example to others.
Membership
This had increased by 18 from 110 of the previous year to 128. Membership drive still
continued.
Attendance at the branch meetings had also been encouraging.
Financial Remittance
The branch submitted the annual capitation fee of N20,000 for 2001 to the National
body. It represented approximately 34% increase over the previous year and it was
hoped that there would be further improvement in the following year.
Proposal for Constitutional Amendment
A locally constituted committee looked into this and their submission was forwarded to
the National body.
Project Donation to OGS
Through a fund-raising dinner in October 2001 the branch raked in five million Naira.
The largest single donation was made by Engr (Dr) JBO Adewumi. The branch used the
money to fund the rehabilitation and equipping of the Science Laboratories.
Establishment of OGS Endowment Fund
The branch is proposing to the National body for consideration the establishment of an
Endowment Fund for the School. The need for this was because of the dwindling fiscal
allocation of fund available to schools in general and to OGS in particular. The aim is to
perpetually have a fund for use for the resuscitation and for the maintenance the school
for the sustenance of its high standard. It was proposed that alumni would make their
contribution of one thousand Naira each per annum through the branch associations.
Physically Handicapped Students
The chapter also proposed for adoption the establishment of a welfare scheme to cater for
physically handicapped students of OGS
